TLDR -
The problem: Claude 5 Hour Usage
The Solution: start earlier (using cron, to start my claude session earlier)

Anthropic Claude as a subscriber currently has a bizarre 5 hour quota window. So if you work an 8 hour day that basically means you get a morning & afternoon session, usually that’s 1–3 hours of intense usage per 5 hour period.

If you’re an insomniac codeaholic like me, you actually get 4x sessions, but I routinely find myself staying up till midnight or 1am to get in “just one more session!! 😅” .. and after a few months of this I’m a exhausted.

I fear what would happen to my health if upgrade to PRO and get 5–20x usage. I absolutely enjoy the “breaks” from lockout — I use them to to perform next-step planning in projects (research, ideating & writing prompts) & my other life admin — ex: chores, walk the dog, exercise, shopping, meal prep, etc. my gameification is to see how many features/issues I can close in each session before lockout. I also use other LLM tools (🦘 RooCode, OpenCode, Codex, Gemini-CLI) during my Claude Code lock out time, this reduces my reliance on any one single vendor. I also use claude-code-router ; so I don’t *need* to stop, I just need to stop relying on Sonnet4 or I flip over to burning my $10 GH Copilot Sonnet4 quota or pay per use on openrouter…
